Responsible Gambling in Nigeria: Help, Limits and Self-Exclusion

My brother, if you're reading this page because things are getting heavy, you've already done the hardest part. Here's where to get help in Nigeria and how to put the brakes on.

Talk to someone today
Gamble Alert is a Nigerian non-profit working on gambling harm. Its helpline runs 24/7 and is free and confidential: +234 916 295 7989, with toll-free lines +234 705 889 0073 and +234 705 889 0074 (gamblealert.org).
Warning signs
- Chasing losses with a "last bet" to get back to zero.
- Borrowing, or using rent and school-fee money, to bet.
- Hiding betting from family.
- Feeling restless or angry when you can't bet.
- Betting to escape stress instead of for fun.
Tools that actually help
- Deposit limits: set daily, weekly and monthly limits in the account settings of every site you use.
- Time-outs and self-exclusion: offshore operators, including Cloudbet, offer account closure and self-exclusion through support. Ask in writing and keep the reply.
- Block the apps: use your phone's screen-time controls or a gambling-blocking app.
- Cut the money route: if crypto is your path in, remove the P2P app or set a spending cap with your bank.
Helping a friend
Talk without shaming, don't lend money for bets, and share the Gamble Alert number. Support for family members is also available on the same line.
Abeg, play safe.
